Part-time: Work from Home English Teacher

Set up your home office from Johannesburg, Gauteng and get ready to teach English online to adult learners from around the world! You’ll be able to teach group and private lessons during the scheduled times provided. Get trained on how to teach on our sophisticated, but easy-to-use online classroom and scheduling platform. Our academic team provides most lesson materials, so you can skip hours of lesson prep and focus your energy on connecting with the students you meet in the classroom. Though our peak hours are in the afternoon, lessons are scheduled 24/7, 360 plus days a year.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 40 to 45-minute conversation based group and private lessons with adult learners.
  • Provide after class reports to all students, detailing their progress and on-going recommendations for improvement.
  • Keep up to date with all platform and classroom enhancements.

Requirements

  • South African Residency. You must live in South Africa and be in possession of a South African identity document.
  • C2 level English speaker with a neutral accent.
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree (compulsory).
  • 120-hour TEFL certificate (recommended). If you do not have a TEFL qualification, you can do your certification through EF during the application process but it must be completed prior to teaching.
  • Computer literacy is a must.
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Professional, energetic, and excited about people.
  • Previous teaching experience is a plus, but not required. Other work experience counts.

Work hours

Work on an Ad Hoc basis dependent on the operational requirements of the company and therefore no set hours and/or days of work will be contracted to the employee. The company will schedule specific rostered days and hours per week Mondays to Sundays, and this will be communicated to the Employee ahead of time. Hours may vary and be rostered from 20 up to 45 hours per week and 45 hours are ordinary hours of work per week.

Example of Currently Available Shifts:

  • Tuesday to Sunday: 13h00 -18h00
  • Sunday to Friday: 13h00 – 18h00
  • Monday to Saturday: 13h00 – 18h00

Note: Available shifts may change during time of recruitment depending on operational needs and student availability.

  • Uncapped internet :
  • Download: 20 Mbps (minimum).
  • Upload: 20 Mbps (minimum).
  • Backup power source, i.e. UPS or Generator in case of power outages or load shedding which charges both the laptop and your router for a minimum of 4-hours.
  • Surge protector plug (minimum required 230V - 50Hz).
  • Transport the equipment by way of a private vehicle, to and from the office at your own cost.
  • All equipment provided must at all times be stored/kept in a safe and secure environment.

Compensation

  • Payment is based on an hourly rate of R41.76 per hour.
  • Depending on your shift, the rates will vary from R41.76 to R79.24
  • Medical aid benefits available pending completion of a successful probation period.
