Our one-on-one private lessons are booked in 30- or 60-minute blocks, with 20- and 40-minutes devoted to in classroom time. Group lessons typically have 6 to 8 students and last 45 minutes, though are scheduled for an hour-long block. During the remaining time in your lesson block, you can work on completing feedback reports and/or prepping for your next lesson.

Earn up to ZAR87 per hour as a freelance, work-from-home teacher, or up to ZAR11,250 per month as a full time, teacher.

Not at all! Our Academic team creates optional materials which can be uploaded into the classroom in advance. They are provided as an additional optional resource tool for you. This means you don’t need to spend hours planning lessons or preparing activities. Alternatively, you can always use your own materials and teaching aids if you wish. Sometimes in private lessons, a student may request a lesson on a specific topic which our materials don't cover - then you may need to create materials relevant to that.

As an education company dedicated to providing its students with the best experience, EF requires its teachers to have a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate. If you don't have a TEFL yet, no problem - Successful teaching candidates can begin their certification training during the onboarding process, but all teachers must receive their certification prior to teaching on our platform. EF sponsors TEFL enrollment for full-time employee new hires in our Johannesburg center

Absolutely. Online teachers come from a variety of different backgrounds. Often the best teachers are those who are interested in student development or the English language. If you’ve ever coached a soccer team or were the go-to person in the office to show the new person around, you could have what it takes to be a great online English teacher.

Yes! We understand that when face-to-face with a student for the first time, the last thing you want to be doing is figuring out new technology. You’ll be provided with a full platform introduction, which will familiarise you with the online classroom. We also have a support team that can answer any questions you may have. It is important to note though that freelance teachers must maintain responsibility for their equipment and internet functioning properly and may need to do independent trouble-shooting.

Unfortunately, no. You need to teach on a laptop or desktop computer. Freelance teachers will need to supply their own computer. Full time teachers will be provided with a computer.

Our students live around the world. Each country has its own regulations governing teacher qualifications. In order to offer you the biggest selection of classes with a variety of students, all online teachers are required to hold a bachelor's degree. Your degree doesn't need to be in teaching or in English.
