How much does it cost to learn English in the UK?
Learning English in the UK starts at around $650 per week including daily English lessons, accommodation in a host family, and a meal plan. If you want to take an intensive course, a business English course, or an IELTS preparation course, plan on spending closer to $700 or $750 per week. In addition to the cost of the course, you should budget for your transport to the UK and pocket money for bus fares, snacks, and activities.
An overall budget for three weeks learning English in Cambridge with us looks like this:
- Eurostar round trip Paris – London: $240
- Train round trip London – Cambridge: $60
- Intensive English course: $2145
- Pocket money: $300
- Total: $2745
You can often save money on an English course in the UK by booking off-peak (summer is the most expensive time), studying in less-popular cities (London, Oxford, and Cambridge are in high demand), and travelling with a friend (discounts for double bookings are common). You’re most likely to find discounts for courses in the winter, although that’s also when the weather is worst. The cost of learning English in the UK will be worth it if you learn to speak English, but it’s not negligible, and budgeting for it ahead of time is the best way to manage the expense.
