Inaugural class inducted to the National Honor Society
20 seniors were recently inducted as the founding members of the EF Academy – New York Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). NHS is an American premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students, who uphold the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character.
The National Honor Society will begin this year with the opportunity to get involved in our school and local community and give back as scholars and leaders as active members of their community. Each student who was inducted was nominated by the staff council composed of five faculty members from the academic and residence life on campus. Students were chosen based upon their strong GPA, behavior inside and outside of school and positive contributions to the school community. Students were also required to receive two recommendations from teachers at EF Academy to be inducted.
Mr. Mark Niesen, IB Math teacher at EF Academy, was a part of the ceremony and gave remarks at the ceremony: “We welcome you into this society, which, because of its principles, is the finest organization of our high school. None of us yet have reached all of the goals just set before us, but it is our hope that you will join with us in our attempt to be that person who displays much character, scholarship, leadership, and service.”
At the close of the ceremony, inducted seniors lit a symbolic torch and were presented with the emblem of the Society. Congratulations to the newly inducted members at EF Academy New York!
