Discovering Purpose through Teaching: My Journey

Occasionally, the avenues we pursue to enhance our lives can unexpectedly ignite novel passions. Joining EF Teaching Online was initially a step towards earning extra income. Little did I know that this journey would not only reignite my love for teaching but also redefine my professional aspirations.

What motivated you to join our teaching platform, and how has your experience been compared to your initial expectations?

In June 2024, while preparing to pursue my master’s degree, I decided to explore online teaching as a part-time job to supplement my income. My initial intention was simple: to earn extra money. However, I quickly realized that teaching was more than just a job - it was a passion and a hobby that brought me immense joy.

As I continued teaching, I discovered the personal and financial rewards it offered. Within two months, I had built strong relationships with regular students, many of whom attended my classes multiple times a week, sometimes even twice a day. These connections motivated me to dedicate more time to teaching on EF Teach Online, and in doing so, I significantly expanded my student base.

I had expected EF to be an excellent platform with an immersive teaching environment, but the reality exceeded my expectations. The role-playing activities and real-life scenarios provided a unique, practical, and engaging way for students to learn. EF has exceeded my expectations in every way, as the platform made teaching and learning an enriching experience for both students and teachers.

What advice would you give to a new teacher just starting on our platform to ensure they thrive?

Patience is key! Many of my students appreciate the time I take to enunciate my words, my cheerful attitude, and the welcoming atmosphere I create in every class. Smiling, being approachable, and encouraging students can transform their learning experience.

Time management is equally critical. I rely on alarms, electronic calendars, and my smartwatch to ensure I never miss a class. Staying organized and on schedule is essential for maintaining a seamless teaching journey. To new teachers, I say, “Be flexible, accommodating, and create a safe space, especially for beginners and elementary students.”

Can you share some of your most memorable moments as an EF Online Instructor?

Every class is memorable in its own way, but one particular moment stands out. A student from Germany shared with me how our classes had reignited her passion for learning English. She had almost given up, finding the language too difficult and impractical, but my classes changed her perspective. She felt comfortable making mistakes, and her confidence grew significantly. “Thanks to you, I have learned a lot and developed a passion for the language,” she told me. Hearing how my teaching positively impacted her personal and professional growth was deeply fulfilling.

I also remember a time when I helped a student from Portugal prepare for a job interview in English. We practiced many times using the Hyperclass roleplay scenarios. He finally got the job and was so thankful that I had helped him improve his professional career.

What have you enjoyed most about teaching with EF Teach Online, and how has it impacted your professional growth?

EF Teach Online’s platforms have provided me with incredible exposure, allowing me to educate individuals from diverse backgrounds and make a tangible impact on their personal and professional journeys. Helping students enhance their English skills has deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity and the importance of creating meaningful connections.

Moreover, EF’s training programs have enhanced my teaching skills, helping me grow as an educator. This platform has not only transformed my professional growth but has also made my teaching journey truly fulfilling, as I continue to learn and inspire others.
