Вопросительные формы и косвенная речь
Порядок слов
В косвенных вопросах обычный порядок слов: подлежащее перед сказуемым, и не обязательно использовать 'do' или 'did':

Такой тип вопроса строится при помощи 'ask' + 'if / whether' + предложение:

Вопросительные слова
Такой тип вопроса строится при помощиg 'ask' (или другого подобного 'ask' глагола) + вопросительное слово + предложение. Предложение содержит в себе вопрос, в нём обычный порядок слов и при необходимости можно поменять время.
