EF Stories: Lisanne from Germany in EF Toronto
What did you realize in Toronto?
After spending four weeks with EF in Toronto, it was clear to me that I wanted to make traveling part of my job. Since I invest a lot of time and joy in music and concerts at home in Germany, I decided to study music management. Besides making music myself, I have always enjoyed attending concerts, which is how I discovered traveling for myself.
Together with my friends I travel to concerts and events of different musicians and artists to watch their performances live and to experience unforgettable moments in great cities and exciting countries. As a manager, you accompany these people during their tour or to press appointments - so in the future I would combine my passion for travel and music in my job. I didn't even realize at first that this opportunity existed and that I could discover the world in this way. It doesn't get any better than that!
Did your language skills improve during your trip?
I was able to use my English skills, which improved significantly in Toronto, perfectly in my application and in my studies. The spin classes were particularly helpful in this regard. For example, I was able to communicate more easily and fluently in English because of my chosen elective "Applied Conversations."
Linguistically, I was able to improve by one level during the four weeks. This is about average, because during an EF trip, the language level improves by one level every six weeks. The structure and organization of the lessons were particularly helpful to my learning. In class, attention was paid to developing listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and also writing in English. There were different topics each week and the teaching methods were very varied.
What else did you take away from your trip?
I was also able to learn new social skills during my language study trip. I am more self-confident and my appearance has become more confident. It's easier for me to approach strangers and go on excursions with them. This included, for example, a trip to New York lasting several days or a day trip to Niagara Falls, which took me to one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Besides the activities organized by the language school, my friends and I were also able to experience the undiscovered places of Toronto. Whether it was a photo day for Instagram or a trip to the Eaten Centre for shopping.
What is your conclusion to your trip to EF Toronto?
I am overjoyed with where my trip has taken me and the person I have become through these experiences. It allowed me to meet many new people that made the four weeks an unforgettable time! Also, Toronto showed me a whole different side of traveling. Where exactly I'm going for my next trip is not decided yet. At the moment Honolulu, San Diego and Mauritius are at the top of my list. Or maybe a detour to Toronto again?
